Reclaiming You
For years, I was on autopilot, doing all the right things, the things good moms, good wives, and responsible women do. I raised my family with love, devotion, and the kind of energy that makes you forget to pause and ask, “What do I want?” Somewhere between soccer practice, school activities and homework, meal planning, and cheerleading for everyone else’s dreams, I left a part of myself behind.
And I didn’t even realize it… until one day I looked in the mirror and barely recognized the woman staring back. That moment, changed everything.
Not all at once but it planted the seed. I realized that while I’d been showing up for everyone else, I had slowly stopped showing up for me. And here’s what I know now, it’s not selfish to want more for yourself, it’s soul-saving.
This wasn’t about throwing away the life I had built. No, it was about reclaiming the woman I had always been underneath the layers of roles and responsibilities. It was about remembering her dreams, her quirks, her joy. It was about discovering who I was becoming.
Little by little, I started saying yes to myself. I finished my degree years after I put it on the back burner for everyone else’s schedules. I traveled with friends, rediscovered my voice in conversations not about school lunches or weekend plans. I gave myself permission to dream again. And with each “yes,” I stepped closer to the woman I was meant to be.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good facial or a bubble bath. But what truly changed me wasn’t surface-level pampering, it was soul-deep care.
I started asking different questions:
What lights me up?
What makes me feel alive?
What do I need right now not someday, not next year, but today?
I made space to hear the answers. Some came as whispers. Others arrived like bold lightning strikes of truth. Slowly, I created a new rhythm, one rooted in joy, intention, and alignment.
What I’ve learned:
Change your story, you’re the author.
You’re never too late to become who you were always meant to be.
Little shifts create big magic.
Celebrate your life now and not just when you reach the finish line.
Use your gifts to light up the lives around you.
Be kind to yourself.
My journey of rediscovery isn’t over, it’s only just beginning. But I already know this, every time I choose to care for myself, my family and loved ones benefit. They get the most radiant, alive, and present version of me. That’s the kind of legacy I want to leave.
So if you’ve found yourself fading behind the scenes of your own life, take heart. Start small and do one thing for you. Say yes to that inner voice that’s whispering, “Come back.” Because here’s the truth that changed everything for me; nothing is impossible. The mission is not only possible it’s necessary.
You were made for more than just surviving. You were made to shine. Start reclaiming you, one brave step at a time. Let’s light up this life together.
